Sturmey Archer, 3 speed fixed

I took delivery of my new winter bike yeasterday (had to have a new one due to the accident!)
anyway i have had a fixed wheel bike with a Sturmey Archer S3X 3 speed fixed wheel hub
in truth it's going to take a little getting used to. there is a bit of "slack" between pedeling forward and backwards to allow a bit of slack in the chain so the gear will change.
rode out to Stone with the club today and it was fine, we picked up Tom along the way in Stone, then me and Tom went off to do our efforts. not issues at all with anything so far, gear changed when i needed and sprinting was fine, i did notice how much less noise came from the drive (chain)
Anyway, i could only manage three efforts (should have done 4
) and called it a day.
as i came over the rondabout on the A34 / A51 5 or 6 riders came passed me so as they were not going fast i jumped on the back and got a tow to recover.
when we got to Darlaston Inn the pace seemed to kick up a gear or two and they dropped me and three of the others (i was still on the back) so i came through and pulled them back on the wheel...
then the pace went up again
as we went down the hill in to Titensor, i came through to do my turn on the from but kept in in the big gear and stompt up the hill, when i looked round i was on my own so i slowed down and then two of them came hammering past me. so i got back on the wheel and they rode hard all the way to the rounabout at Trentham were i turned off.
fully thing is when i turned off they slowed down
Back to the S3X. it'll take a little work but so far so good
