Joe's last gasp win

Postby DAVWOD » Tue Mar 02, 2010 11:51 pm

Joe Evans has got NCRC 2001 Modern Glass off with his 1st win of the year

I haven't got the full details yet of the event .. but Phil said that Joe was in a break of 4 and just nipped to snatch the win under the arms of a fellow breakaway who thought he won the race... maybe Joe fill the gaps in on his win , but well done !

Hi guys. Joe here, with my race report. So here's how it all happened, after a very early 5:45am start and in the velodrome for 7:30  it was straight into racing at 8:30am. My first race was a 25 lap scratch race which is the simplest of long distance track race's, the first one over the line is the winner. This race suits me pretty well but on the final bend i was in a great position to rush the gap on Joel Partington, but on the last bend i was boxed in by Jacob from Lichfeild(My team mate!!!) and didn't have enough room to get round Joel in the last 50 meters so came home 2nd, not too bad and i tried not to dwell on it. After i had had abit of a blow it was time for my second race  a devil or elimination, this is where the last person over the line each lap is eliminated from the race. Another race that suits me, unfortunately i couldn't get a wheel in any decent position so had to do alot of work on the front, it ended up i was second to Jacob from Lichfeild by a very small margin. The last of the track evetns was an Italian pursuit which is basicaly a team sprint with more riders. We set a fast time and caught our rivals from the Isle of Man. So to the road race. After about an hours wait i was on the start line not the best of conditions if i'm honest, a light rain and abit of a head wind but i had to just get on with it. I got in a break of four riders, Jacob from Lichfeild Christian Brabrook from sportcity someone from the isle of man and myself. we opened a fairly big gap quite quickly from the bunch(and i use the term bunch quite loosely) The guy from the Isle of Man said pretty early on he wasn't going to contest the sprint so just sat on the back the whole way  so on the final right hand bend i was lying third, not a paticularly good place to be but i new i could get round the bend quicker than the other two so i sprinted up the final short hill and just as Jacob thought it was all over and stuck his hand in the air i nicked past to take pole position. . i was quite pleased and just shows it aint over till the fat lady sings. So that's my first win of the Season and i'm hoping for alot more for Newcastle.Sorry about the long post! Bring on Yarborough
